Taxpayers are being warned that they should expect an increase in HMRC investigations. HMRC have become more efficient at collecting money through investigations, having made £5bn from investigations in 2018/19. This was a similar amount to the previous year but after reducing their staff costs by nearly 10%.
Commentators have suggested that HMRC are likely to pursue smaller businesses and individuals because they are less expensive than investigations into larger businesses. This is particularly unfair as one of the reasons for this is that such taxpayers are less likely to have professional representation.
Eaves and Co work with individuals and businesses of all sizes and are very experienced at successfully dealing with HMRC investigations. This can be especially valuable in protecting your rights and minimising HMRC assessments and penalties to the amounts they can legally charge.
